Privacy Policy

Overview

Store Inspector for Shopify is a Chrome extension that analyzes publicly visible information on Shopify storefronts you choose to visit — theme, installed apps, payment options, analytics tools, and basic performance metrics.

What data we collect

• The extension has no backend server. No company or individual receives your browsing activity through this extension.
• All analysis happens locally, inside your own browser, using publicly visible page content (HTML, scripts, and public storefront JSON endpoints like /products.json) that any visitor to that store could already see.
• Analysis results are stored only on your own device, using Chrome's local storage API, so re-opening the extension on a site you already analyzed shows cached results instead of re-scanning. This data never leaves your device.
• No account, sign-up, or personal identifiers — name, email address, physical address, phone number, or similar — are collected at any point.
• We do not use cookies, analytics SDKs, or advertising trackers of any kind.

Third-party requests this extension makes

To do its job, the extension fetches data from a small number of external, non-personal sources:

None of these requests include your name, email, browsing history, or any other personally identifiable information.

Permissions explained

• activeTab / scripting — used only when you click "Analyze" or "Re-analyze," to read the current tab's page content. The extension never runs in the background without your action.
• storage — used only to cache your own analysis results locally, and to cache the app-signature list for performance.
• host permissions (all sites) — needed because this tool can analyze any website's custom domain (e.g. yourstore.com), not just a fixed list of URLs, in order to determine whether it's a Shopify store and, if so, read its public data.

How your data is stored

Results from stores you've analyzed are cached using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. This data:

• stays on your device and syncs only within your own Chrome profile (never to us),
• is cleared automatically if you uninstall the extension,
• can be cleared any time by removing the extension or clearing Chrome's site/extension data.

Children's privacy

This extension is a store-research tool intended for merchants, marketers, and developers. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a new "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before taking effect.
